Has anyone ever asked you what your favorite book is?
I adore books, but I hate that question. The truth is, I’ve just never been able to decide for sure what my all-time favorite book is. I don’t think I have one; I have about a hundred favorites.
…but, if I absolutely had to choose (you know, like being held at gunpoint or something) I might pick The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare.
I love everything about this book, from the time-period it’s set in, to the heroine, to the grouchy Puritan uncle. I love stories that make me feel like I’m living history right along with the characters in the book.
My mom introduced me to this book when I was maybe twelve and it’s been a favorite of mine ever since. It also piqued my interest in the events surrounding the Salem witch trials. (In fact, if anyone has any great books recommendations about the trails I’d love to hear what they are!)
I’ve been waiting for the girls to get a little older so I can introduce them to this little gem and it’s definitely going on our read-aloud list for 2014.
The only bad thing about the book? It’s not long enough.
