Day 3: Picture Books We Adore (part I)

My girls and I, we love books.  I’ve been reading to them for years and they look forward to going to the library every bit as much as I do.

I’ve compiled a list of a few of our favorites, but even being very choosy I’m going to have to divide this list into several parts to keep it manageable.

Madeline’s current favorite: Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin

This is a silly, adorable book all about why you should NOT feed tacos with hot sauce to dragons….

….and what happens if you accidentally do.

It’s super cute and Madeline asks for it every time we go to the library.  I should probably just invest in a copy so other children have the chance to read the local copy.

Susannah’s current favorite(s): any of the Fancy Nancy books by Jane O’Connor

I know, that’s hardly a shock.  I can’t remember a time when she hasn’t been obsessed with Nancy.  Luckily, these books are so cute that I like them almost as much as she does so the constant stream of fanciness doesn’t drive me too crazy.  Every time I think we own just about every book in the series, I realize that no, we actually don’t.  There are a lot of Fancy Nancy books!

My current favorite(s): anything by Oliver Jeffers, but especially The Incredible Book Eating Boy, Stuck, and The Great Paper Caper.

We were introduced to Oliver Jeffers last year and have been hooked ever since.  His books are silly and fun, but it’s the illustrations that really get me.  Seriously, check out the legs on his characters and tell me you don’t love them (that way I’ll know we can no longer be friends).

And finally, what we’re all enjoying together: Press Here by Herve Tullet

This book is fun and interactive and it’s another one that has spent so much time at our house that the library probably thinks we’ve stolen it.

Fun, right?  I’ll be back later in the month with more from our favorites list.  How about you?  Monopolize any books from your local library?

See the rest of the series here.

  1. Haha! Love that line about monopolizing library books. Very guilty here. There are certain books that my kids actually think we own because they are on their dresser more often than not. But — hey — I give people a chance…and if it’s still on the shelf weeks later, it’s ours again! My 4-year-old loves the Monkey with a Toolbelt series. No one else ever seems to check it out.

p.s. you made my heart go pitter-patter with Mr. Jeffers eye candy up there.

  2. I’m thinking my son would like the Dragon book…. but I’m very intrigued by the press here interactive book. I’ll have to keep an eye out for both at the library 🙂 Thanks for stopping by my blog.
