Encouraging Imagination: Jello Aquariums

June 2013 008

I saw these Jello aquariums last year and have been  dying to try them with the girls ever since.  This was the perfect month and we had a blast making them together.  I think if I did it again I’d use clear gelatin and add just a touch of blue food color because the blue Jello was so dark that it was hard to see the fish.  I’d also use smaller jars.

We used nerds, Swedish fish, and berry-blue Jello.   According to the original post the jello made the nerds soggy so we poured the jello into canning jars to set up, then dumped them over into another jar with the nerds right before serving.  Cut slits in the Jello to insert the fish and you’re done.

I think these would be adorable for a SS class on Jonah or other fishy-related story.  🙂   The girls looooved their little aquariums!
