Encouraging Imagination: Rock Monsters

July 2013 025

I’ve had this bag of rocks just begging to be used for over a year now, so we finally sat down and “cutened them up” (according to Susannah).

I had every intention of also making some ladybug rocks and love rocks, but after we finished our rock monsters there weren’t any appropriately-sized rocks left in our stash, so we’ll have to try those another day.

We started off by painting our rocks in various bright colors.  They each took several coats and we let them dry overnight.  The next day we glued eyes and drew/painted on mouths in different designs.  As soon as they were done drying the girls squirreled them off to their rooms and I heard adorable little monster voices for the rest of the afternoon.  🙂

We have several more fun projects planned for the month, but we’re in Colorado so they’ll have to wait until we get back next week.

Anybody else been working on fun projects this summer?

  1. I just wish you could video those cute little monster sounds to go with the rocks…and you made such adorable little faces on the rock monsters. I would’ve drawn smileys on all of them. ahahaha…
